Frequently Asked Questions

How does energy healing work?

A healer is a channel for the life force energy that is everywhere in the universe. Like an antenna, the healer tunes to a specific energetic frequency that is conducive to healing. This process involves synching up energetically with the natural electromagnetic frequency of the earth, as well as channeling higher, more ethereal frequencies. It is important to note that this energy does not come from the healer, but moves through the healer. Your pet then takes this amazing energy and uses it to heal himself or herself.

Is energy healing a religious practice?

Although energy healing in various forms has been used in religious rites, energy healing need not be based in religion. During a healing session, the healer connects with a force that is outside of oneself; you could think of this force as God, or the Source, or simply as universal life force energy. Healing is normally a quiet, meditative, spiritual practice.

What can I expect during a session?

Animals often become very relaxed during energy healing sessions. It is not unusual for an individual to give a deep sigh, lower the eyelids to half-mast, and eventually fall into a deep, restorative sleep. Some pets who are nervous or agitated around new people may walk back and forth during the first treatment until they become accustomed to the presence of the healer and the feel of the energy, and will then settle down. The majority of pets absolutely love energy work, and their reaction to it is visible. Taking a long nap after a session is not uncommon.

How many sessions will my pet need?

The short answer is “it depends.” For example, a pet who is recovering from surgery will benefit from four consecutive days of treatment, followed by once-weekly sessions as needed. For chronic conditions such as arthritis, ongoing treatments once or twice a week are beneficial; or, treatments can be scheduled whenever the condition flares up. For emotional issues—for example, fear, grief, or aggression—treatment time will vary depending on various factors including the temperament of the individual animal and the intensity of the issue. Please note that energy healing is never forced on any being. If your pet does not want the energy (which is rare, but it happens), the session is over and you will not be charged a fee.

How long will it take to see results?

Again, there is no definitive answer that applies to every situation, but results are usually seen very quickly. You may see a difference in your pet during or directly after the session—exclamations of, “He never behaves that way!” are not uncommon. Or, it may take up to a few days for the body to use the energy to begin the healing process. Examples of subtle changes you might observe are your pet walking with less pain or restriction of motion, showing less fear in certain situations or around certain people, being less “barky” or aggressive, or displaying a lesser intensity of stress-related behaviors such as scratching furniture or chewing at paws.

Can hands-on healing hurt my pet?

Energy healing can do no harm, although in some instances a “healing reaction” may be observed. Just as with other healing modalities such as homeopathy, the affliction may actually seem to worsen before it gets better. This is because the body is processing out the illness or toxins, moving them from deep inside the body to the outside where they become observable before being completely released. A healing reaction might mean a dog begins to chew at his paws during a session, or a cat who has been scratching at herself does so with more intensity for a few hours after the session—but then the behavior stops altogether. A dog with a traumatic past might become agitated during a session as he releases the memory once and for all. Again, energy healing, as practiced by an experienced, ethical healer, will never, ever do harm.
